(01)Is the use of AI permitted in legal practice?
Yes, provided professional obligations are observed. In Germany, professional rules allow lawyers to use technical service providers if confidentiality is preserved and contractually secured (section 43e BRAO). AI may support the work, but professional responsibility remains with the lawyer: results must be reviewed before they are used towards clients or courts.
(02)How is client confidentiality protected when using AI?
With several layers of protection: on-premise operation without a cloud connection or isolated cloud instances, no use of client data for model training, contracts with model providers that exclude data retention, and deletion at the end of the mandate. The measures are set out in contracts and documented so that you can demonstrate compliance.
(03)Can AI replace lawyers?
No, and that is not the goal. AI takes over recurring tasks such as document review, clause extraction and initial research, so that lawyers can focus on complex assessments, strategy and client advice. It is a tool that can improve quality and efficiency, not independent legal advice.
(04)How accurate is AI in contract review?
For clearly defined standard clauses, well-tuned systems achieve a high hit rate; the exact quality depends on document quality, contract types and reference data. That is why we measure it in a calibration phase with your own contracts, in which lawyers validate the results and the system is adapted to firm standards.
(05)Which areas of law benefit most from AI?
Document-heavy areas in particular: M&A and due diligence, contract law, compliance, employment law, real estate law and intellectual property. AI is especially suitable where many similar documents need to be reviewed or large volumes of case law searched, and where patterns repeat.
